It wasn’t uncommon centuries ago at banquets or other social functions for there to be a professional Toastmaster. The Toastmaster is there to give advice on the speech’s length, content if necessary, arrangement, and delivery. On the special day, the Toastmaster will be a reassuring presence, never taking the spotlight but instead being quietly supportive of everyone, especially when things become emotional.

Many people believe the Toastmaster is only used in very formal weddings. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. However formal or informal wedding, a Toastmaster is a wonderful choice. The Toastmaster supports the groom and bride and never upstages things. Just like the wedding party, the bride and groom, and the families, the Toastmaster’s main goal is to create an unforgettable day by making sure that all things run as smoothly as possible.

The Toastmaster will arrive early on the day, then tactfully he will check that everything is properly set out the way it should be. He will introduce himself to the banqueting manager and staff familiarising himself with the venue and surroundings. This is where teamwork is essential from the bride, groom and guests arriving, reception drinks, wedding photographs, receiving line, commencement of the meal, cutting the cake and speeches and the evenings entertainment. This is where the Toastmaster excels himself by watching and overseeing the continuity of the day.
